The World’s First 3D-Printed Superyacht with Solar Wings Design Unveiled – EQ Mag
The yacht’s superstructure reflects the skies and seas, making it appear invisible while sailing.
Designer Joseph Forakis unveiled the design of “PEGASUS 88m” – the world’s first 3D-printed superyacht with reflective solar wings that would run on green energy and infinite range.
The futuristic yacht concept was made on a beach in Koufonisia island, Greece . Forakis was motivated to design a yacht that was as natural and near to the sea as possible, according to the designer’s website.
The Goal of ‘Invisibility’
The goal of “invisibility” inspired Forakis to create a zero-emission superyacht that would be undetectable in design and environmental effects.
Forakis and his colleagues conducted an in-depth study to choose innovative technologies that are either already in use or being developed to attain durability, range, and structural integrity for the superyacht concept.
The team is also employing Robotic 3D printing to create the 88-meter superyacht, mainly by producing a mesh framework that combines the hull and superstructure.
Forakis’ team explains that this method makes an incredibly robust and lightweight structure that can be built with minimal energy, space, material, waste, and time in contrast to traditional construction methods.
The yacht’s distinctive exterior features a low, linear hull with a plumb bow and a metallic finish that merges like a chameleon with the hues and motions of the sea.
The superstructure is supported by a base at the water’s edge with multi-tiered, ephemeral glass wings mirroring the sky and clouds.
Tree of Life
The multi-level “Tree of Life” is the focal point of the futuristic interior design. It serves as the hydroponic garden’s core, providing fresh food and air purification.
The hydroponic + meditation Zen Garden surrounds the tree’s base, which rises from a reflecting pool on the bottom deck. A sculptural spiral staircase runs alongside the tree as it rises through all four levels.
Meanwhile, the top floor contains a master suite featuring a large private terrace. The yacht will also have a forward pool club with a style of an aquarium lap and large horizontal windows that can be converted into starboard, port, and open balconies.
According to the design’s page, The open beach club fold-down balconies can also be transformed into an enclosed solarium by sliding glass panels across the transom bulkhead and the ceiling.
This futuristic superyacht will have an almost limitless range and zero carbon emissions. It will run on solar energy to transform seawater into hydrogen, and onboard fuel cells will convert the water into electricity stored Li-ion batteries.
