In Short : Aggreko has acquired RenEnergy’s businesses in the UK and South Africa. This acquisition is likely part of Aggreko’s strategy to expand its presence and capabilities in the renewable energy sector, aligning with the global shift towards cleaner and sustainable energy solutions.

In Detail : Power generation equipment supplier Aggreko has acquired the UK and South African-based businesses of RenEnergy to bolster its solar and storage capabilities.

According to the companies, the acquisition will enable the businesses to deliver more comprehensive renewable energy solutions to meet the evolving needs of more clients and support them through the energy sector’s transition to more renewable sources.

It is worth noting that RenEnergy, a solar carport provider, will continue to operate under its own brand with the partnership to bolster efforts to decarbonise both the UK and South African regions via the integration of solar and energy storage.

Chris Rason, managing director of Aggreko Energy Services, said: “RenEnergy is a well-run business in the growing renewable energy sector and we look forward to supporting the management team in achieving their growth ambitions, both in terms of investment and the benefit our commercial position brings in both the UK and South Africa.”

In May 2023, Aggreko agreed to become the financing and development partner for a 500MW US community solar portfolio to be established by the Farmers Powering Communities solar initiative, our sister site PV-Tech reported.

The projects are to be realised by the end of this decade and will represent around US$1 billion (£790 million) in investment, according to founder and CEO of developer Edelen Renewables, Adam Edelen, which is involved in the project.

Solar Power Portal reported in 2020 that Aggreko had launched a rental scheme for solar PV and battery storage systems. The 1MW systems comprise of the company’s panels, with a single-axis tracking system to improve energy delivery by 10-20%.

Aggreko Solar Power combines PV string inverters with containerised controls to improve resilience through reduced installation time.
