The project will save about 50,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

New Delhi: Sterling and Wilson Solar, a Shapoorji Pallonji group company, on Tuesday said it has commissioned the 66-megawatt (MW) Al Husainiyah solar power plant in Jordan.

According to the official company release, the project will save about 50,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually and is located on an area of 1.3 square kilometres in Ma’an Governorate, 200 kilometres south of Amman.

“This is our third project in the country, and we are proud to be a contributing player in the Government of Jordan’s mission of switching to renewable energy. These projects are critical for Jordan’s economic growth by reducing its reliance on costly hydrocarbon imports for power generation,” said Amit Jain, global chief executive officer, Sterling and Wilson Solar Group.

The solar firm, which is an end-to-end solar engineering, procurement and construction solutions provider, has over 11.4 gigawatt (GW) of projects, commissioned and under various stages of construction, in various geographies.

It also manages a portfolio of 8.8 GW of operations and maintenance projects globally.
