Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi met his British counterpart James Cleverly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development, at the British Foreign Office.

The British capital, London, hosted on Monday Omani-British talks that revolved around partnership between the two countries and ways to strengthen bilateral ties and work towards enhancing international security and stability.

The Omani official news agency reported that Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi met his British counterpart James Cleverly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development, at the Foreign Office.

The agency said that the two sides reviewed “the existing friendship and cooperation between the two countries and opportunities for new partnership and investment in renewable energy projects, technical education and innovation.”

The Omani and British ministers reportedly reiterated their interest in encouraging the development of start-ups and small and medium enterprises.

They also commended “the work and efforts of the strategic consultation team and the joint working group in advancing cooperation programmes between the two countries and exploring further opportunities for partnership, financial and economic cooperation.”

During the meeting, there was discussion on regional and international developments and it was agreed to continue supporting all efforts aimed at “consolidating peaceful approaches and enhancing pillars of security and stability.”

The meeting included Badr bin Muhammad al-Manthari, Oman’s UK ambassador and a number of officials from both sides.

Oman and Britain have strong and historical links. Britain is one of leading investors in the Sultanate, with direct investments amounted to almost half of foreign inflows, some 15.65 billion riyals ($40.6 billion), as shown by data from the Omani National Centre for Statistics and Information last year.

Trade between Oman and Britain currently runs about $3.7 billion, according to Omani statistics.

British officials have often expressed their confidence in the development of bilateral partnership, which touches on a range of sectors.

Last October, the Omani-British Investment Forum discussed boosting joint investment with the British market and promoting the sultanate as a global destination with promising investment potential.
