RIYADH: On a macro level, Egypt tops Arab countries in the production of wind power and solar energy, according to the Information and Decision Support Center.

Zooming in, Libya’s largest gas field Alfaragh has begun the process of pumping gas to the Electrical Sarir station, which will help in reducing the number of hours of electricity cut-off.

Looking at the bigger picture

Egypt comes first in a list of Arab countries in the production of wind power and solar energy, with a 3.5-gigawatt capacity, according to the Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center.

In 2024, production is expected to reach 6.8 gigawatts, including 1.6 gigawatt capacity of wind power and 1.9 gigawatts capacity of solar energy.

The US became the top liquefied natural gas exporter during the first half of 2022, Reuters reported citing the Energy Information Administration.

As the US increased supply to Europe amid the Ukraine crisis, LNG exports rose 12 percent to an average of 11.2 billion cubic feet per day in the first half of the year compared with the second half of 2021.

Libya’s largest gas field Alfaragh has begun the process of pumping gas to the Electrical Sarir station, Trade Arabia reported citing the country’s National Oil Company.

As the Electrical Sarir station enters the electricity network, the number of hours of electricity cut-offs will be reduced, the company explained.

US’s Redwood Materials, a recycling startup run by Tesla’s co-founder JB Straubel, is currently building a $3.5 billion factory to produce battery components to power electric vehicles, according to Bloomberg.

This happens as the company aims to reduce battery costs through mass supplying materials derived from recycled cells.
