Chinese solar technology company Longi said today it will deliver 406 MW of its Hi-MO 5 bifacial modules for the Red Sea project, a luxury tourism destination on the west coast of Saudi Arabia that is planned to be completely powered by renewable energy.

Upon completion in 2030, the Red Sea Project will have 50 hotels and about 1,300 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites. The firm behind the scheme, namely The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC), has contracted a consortium led by ACWA Power Co (TADAWUL:2082) to design, build, operate and transfer the project’s utilities infrastructure.

According to Longi, solar panels and wind turbines installed as part of the project will initially meet 210 MW of demand before the facilities are expanded further.

The project will also feature a battery storage plant of 1,000 MWh.
