Korea Western Power announced on March 21 that it has been selected as the preferred bidder for the 500 MW Manah Solar Power Project in Oman ordered by the Oman Power & Water Procurement Company (OPWP).

The project is to build a 1,000 MW solar power plant in the city of Mana in Dakhiliya, 170 kilometers southwest of Oman’s capital, Muscat. The project was awarded by OPWP in two separate orders in 2019 — Manah 1 (500MW) and Manah 2 (500MW). It will be the largest solar power plant in Oman upon completion.

The Manah 1 Solar Power Project won by Korea Western Power is a very large construction project with an investment of about 600 billion won (US$460 million). The ground will be broken in the second half of this year. The power plant is expected to be completed in March 2025. Korean Western Power will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the solar power plant after completion. OPWP has guaranteed that it will purchase electric power to be generated by the power plant for the next 20 years.

The Manah Solar Power Project is the largest renewable energy project ordered to a state-run Korean power generation company.
