Chinese multinational technology corporation, Huawei, unveiled three smart solar photovoltaic (PV) solutions to help residential consumers cope with energy security and affordability issues in Africa.

Xia Hesheng, President of Huawei Digital Power Sub-Saharan Africa Region, stated that the three products “will help users cope with daily challenges such as load-shedding, which are prevalent across the region. Meanwhile, the residential market faces some challenges such as user experiences, mixing manufacturers, quality, service, efficiency and aesthetics.”

Launched in Cape Town, the three products are dubbed Power-M, LUNA and the high-end luxury solution.

Hesheng added that the launch of the triad of solutions represents part of the company’s efforts to help the region accelerate the penetration of clean energy for decarbonization, and follows 25 years of technological operation by the company across sub-Saharan Africa.

The solutions comprise solar energy generation, battery energy storage and intelligent power management to simplify consumer home installation, maximize on-site energy generation and energy efficiency while providing users with a more efficient home usage experience.

For instance, LUNA, with its artificial intelligence capability, can generate consumer solar PV generation and consumption data under different weather conditions and leverage the data to tweak energy flow and influence consumer usage accordingly.

The solutions launched fall under Huawei’s digitalization drive to integrate ‘4T’ technologies (Watt/Heat/Battery/Bit) to maximize the intelligence and quality of residential solar PV systems across Africa.
