US industrial conglomerate General Electric (NYSE:GE) today said that together with its regional solution partner Inogen it has been picked to build one of Turkey’s first hybrid wind plus solar projects that will see 30 MW of solar added to an existing wind farm.

The wind farm has a capacity of 32 MW and was commissioned in 2020. Pairing it with solar will increase the plant’s capacity factor and availability.

GE and Inogen have been awarded the work by Sertavul.

“The project will help accelerate Turkey’s energy transition by optimising scarce infrastructure and improving capacity factor of an existing plant, enabling intelligent dispatch of power and supporting our customer Sertavul to deliver more renewable energy,” said Prakash Chandra, Renewable Hybrids head at GE.

Inogen’s scope includes site activities and delivery of the sun tracking systems. According to the company’s chief executive Ali Murat Soydan, Inogen is currently building and commissioning more than 4 MW solar power plants a day under the GE structure.

GE will supply seven FLEXINVERTER solar power conversion units for the plant, marking the first installation of its 4.7-MW solar solution globally.
