AMEA Power has been awarded two solar projects with a combined output of 72 MW in Morocco as part of a tender launched by the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Masen) and the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development.

The Dubai-based clean energy company said on Tuesday it will build two solar plants each of 36 MW in Taroudant, in the Souss-Massa region and in El Hajeb, in the Fes-Meknes region.

“Being awarded a total capacity of 72 MW in Morocco is another great milestone for AMEA Power. Morocco is a significant market for us, as it has established itself as a regional leader in clean energy pushing forward large-scale renewable energy projects,” said AMEA Power’s chairman Hussain Al Nowais.

AMEA is among the winners in an international tender launched in February 2021 for the construction of the first phase of the Noor PV II programme which is aimed at the deployment of 330 MW of solar capacity in the North African country.

The green electricity generated by the new solar assets will be supplied to industrial companies in Morocco to support the country’s strategy to raise the share of renewables to 52% by 2030.
