The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said that Egypt advanced 10 places in the Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index (RECAI) to be ranked in the 29th spot by the end of 2022, compared to 39th in 2015, among the 40 countries included in the index.
The agency added that the index aims to measure the most attractive countries in the renewable energy sector, in addition to providing an in-depth look into the renewable energy market and the challenges facing the future of this sector.
CAPMAS stated that the amount of electrical energy generated in Egypt from renewable energy sources (wind energy / solar energy) increased from 10.2 gigawatt-hours in the year 2020/21 to 10.4 gigawatt-hours in the year 2021/22, an increase of 2%.
Egypt ranked 127 among 180 countries included in the Environmental Performance Index (EPI), with a performance rate of 35.5 points, with a progress rate of 6.5% over the past ten years, in 2022.
Moreover, it ranked 20th among 63 countries included in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI), with a performance rate of 59.37 points, ahead of Turkey, which achieved 47th rank, and the United States of America, which achieved 52nd rank, in 2023.
The amount of municipal waste (garbage) that was recycled amounted to 4.4 million tons, and the governorates of Cairo and Dakahlia came on top of those governorates, with recycling rates of 28.8% and 11.5%, respectively, in 2021.
It is noteworthy that the celebration of World Environment Day takes place on June 5 every year, and it is the largest international event concerned with monitoring positive changes in environmental phenomena, with the participation of many countries of the world.
This year comes under the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”.
